Sample questions
Three questions from the CLF-C02 practice bank, with the answer and why each option is right or wrong.
Question 1
Which description of cloud computing is correct?
- A. Leasing dedicated servers in a provider's data center on fixed yearly contracts
- B. Running virtualized servers in a company's own data center to get more use from each server
- C. Buying server hardware in bulk from a provider to get volume discounts
- D. On-demand delivery of IT resources over the internet with pay-as-you-go pricing
Answer: D. Cloud computing is IT resources on demand over the internet, paid for as you use them. Owning, leasing or virtualizing your own servers is something else. [3]
- A. Wrong. A fixed yearly contract commits the company to capacity before it uses it. Cloud computing charges for resources as they are consumed.
- B. Wrong. The company still buys, owns and maintains the physical servers and the data center. Cloud computing takes that work away.
- C. Wrong. Bulk hardware is still hardware the company owns and maintains. With cloud computing you access services such as compute and storage as you need them.
- D. Right. Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery of IT resources over the internet with pay-as-you-go pricing, so you use technology services as you need them.
Question 2
Under the AWS shared responsibility model, which phrase names the customer's part?
- A. Security beyond the cloud
- B. Security around the cloud
- C. Security in the cloud
- D. Security of the cloud
Answer: C. AWS secures the cloud itself. The customer secures what it puts in the cloud. [4]
- A. Wrong. The model does not use security beyond the cloud. Its two parts are security of the cloud and security in the cloud.
- B. Wrong. Security around the cloud is not a term the model uses. The model has two parts, of the cloud and in the cloud.
- C. Right. The customer's part is security in the cloud, and how much work it involves depends on the AWS Cloud services the customer selects.
- D. Wrong. Security of the cloud is the part that AWS holds, not the customer's.
Question 3
An on-call engineer wants to check CloudWatch alarms and get push notifications about AWS resources from a phone. Which AWS option fits?
- A. AWS Budgets
- B. AWS Console Mobile Application
- C. AWS CloudFormation
- D. AWS Trusted Advisor
Answer: B. The Console Mobile Application gives a phone view of selected services, with CloudWatch alarms, dashboards and push notifications. [5]
- A. Wrong. Budgets alerts concern spend and usage limits. They are not a phone view of CloudWatch alarms on resources.
- B. Right. The AWS Console Mobile Application lets you monitor resources, view metrics and alarms for a select set of services and receive push notifications while on the go.
- C. Wrong. CloudFormation has no phone app for alarms or push notifications about resources.
- D. Wrong. Trusted Advisor checks the account against best practices. It is not the phone app the engineer needs.
