Sample questions

Three questions from the AD0-E128 practice bank, with the answer and why each option is right or wrong.

Question 1

A developer sees high CPU on two Adobe Experience Manager 6.5 publish instances behind one Dispatcher at peak times, and plans to add a second Dispatcher. What should the developer do first?

  • A. Add the second Dispatcher so that each one takes half of the publish load
  • B. Enable sticky connections for the whole site so each visitor stays on one publish instance
  • C. Place a Dispatcher in front of the author instance and cache the author content
  • D. Improve caching to reduce the overall load before setting up more load balancing

Answer: D. The Dispatcher does two jobs: caching and load balancing. Caching cuts the work the publish instances have to do. Load balancing only shares the remaining work between them. That is why caching comes first, and a second Dispatcher is a special case that can make performance worse. [2]

  • A. Wrong. Adobe warns that an extra Dispatcher can increase the load on the publish instances and can easily decrease performance in most applications. Setups with several Dispatchers need careful thought.
  • B. Wrong. Sticky connections restrict how well the Dispatcher can handle requests. Adobe says to use them only when needed, for example for personalized pages that keep session data.
  • C. Wrong. An author Dispatcher does nothing for the publish load. Adobe also says not to cache author content when authors use the Touch UI.
  • D. Right. Adobe says load balancing spreads the load, while caching reduces it. Improve caching first. Good caching can raise the load balancer's performance or make load balancing unnecessary.

Question 2

A Sling Model returns a list of links, and the HTL writes them with `<ul data-sly-list.link="${model.links}"><li>${link.title}</li></ul>`. The first `li` must carry an extra CSS class. Which expression is true only for the first item?

  • A. `${linkList.index == 1}`
  • B. `${linkList.first}`
  • C. `${link.first}`
  • D. `${itemList.first}`

Answer: B. `data-sly-list` exposes the current item and a status object. With `data-sly-list.link`, the status object is `linkList`, with members such as `index`, `count`, `first`, `middle`, `last`, `odd` and `even`. [3]

  • A. Wrong. `index` is a zero based counter, so the first item has index 0 and this test matches the second item.
  • B. Right. With a custom identifier, HTL names the iteration status object `<variable>List`, so `linkList.first` is true for the first element being iterated.
  • C. Wrong. `link` holds the current item from the model, here one link object, and carries none of the iteration status members.
  • D. Wrong. `itemList` is the status object only when `data-sly-list` has no identifier. Naming the item `link` renames the status object as well.

Question 3

A team generates a new Adobe Experience Manager project from `aem-project-archetype` and wants a custom 404 response page that applies to the whole instance. Which property should the generate command set?

  • A. `-D singleCountry=y`
  • B. `-D includeErrorHandler=y`
  • C. `-D datalayer=y`
  • D. `-D includeExamples=y`

Answer: B. The archetype turns optional features on or off with `y` or `n` properties. The global custom 404 page comes from `includeErrorHandler`, off unless the generate command sets it. [4]

  • A. Wrong. `singleCountry` includes a language master content structure, and it already defaults to `y`. It has nothing to do with 404 responses.
  • B. Right. `includeErrorHandler` includes a custom 404 response page that is global to the entire instance. Its default is `n`, so the team sets it to `y`.
  • C. Wrong. `datalayer` turns on the Adobe Client Data Layer integration, already on by default. It adds no error page.
  • D. Wrong. `includeExamples` adds a Component Library example site to the project. It does not create an error page.
