Sample questions

Three questions from the AD0-E117 practice bank, with the answer and why each option is right or wrong.

Question 1

An organization is drafting KPIs for its Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service launch. One candidate KPI supports a goal that only a regional marketing manager cares about. No executive has taken ownership of the objective behind it. Why should the architect reject this KPI?

  • A. A KPI must be measured every day before anyone can report it to stakeholders
  • B. A KPI must cover both Sites and Assets before it relates back to the solution
  • C. A KPI must carry a target that no team has reached before the launch
  • D. A KPI's goal must support an objective that a C-level executive champions

Answer: D. Adobe's checks for a KPI: it relates back to Adobe Experience Manager, it is tied to a goal the executive team deems critically important, that goal supports a business objective championed by at least one C-level executive, baseline data exists, and it can be measured at regular intervals. A KPI with no executive behind its objective fails the check. [2]

  • A. Wrong. Adobe asks that a KPI track something that can feasibly be measured at regular intervals. It sets no daily frequency.
  • B. Wrong. Adobe asks that a KPI relate back to the solution, Adobe Experience Manager. It does not ask one KPI to cover both products.
  • C. Wrong. Adobe asks for baseline data to compare the situation before and after the launch. It sets no rule that a target must be new to every team.
  • D. Right. Adobe's checks include that the goal behind a KPI directly supports a business objective championed by at least one C-level executive. No executive owns this objective.

Question 2

A ferry operator hides `/content/ferries` from its public URLs on Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service with Sling mappings. The architect wants the publish service to use its own set of mappings, kept apart from the set author uses. How should the architect set this up?

  • A. Hold the publish mappings in `/etc/map.publish`, replicate them, and set that location as the Mapping Location on publish
  • B. Hold the publish mappings in `/etc/map.publish`, replicate them, and set that location as the Mapping Location on the author
  • C. Hold the publish mappings in `/etc/map/http` on author only, and let publish read them from author at request time
  • D. Hold the publish mappings in `/etc/map.publish` on author only, and let publish read that path with no other setting

Answer: A. Resource mappings form two lists that the JCR Resource Resolver evaluates from the top down: one to resolve URLs to resources and one to map resource paths to URLs. A separate location for publish keeps the public URL rules apart from author's. [3]

  • A. Right. Adobe says `/etc/map.publish` can hold the configurations for the publish environment, that these configurations must be replicated, and that the new location is configured as the Mapping Location of the Apache Sling Resource Resolver of the publish environment.
  • B. Wrong. Adobe says the new location is configured as the Mapping Location of the Apache Sling Resource Resolver of the publish environment, not of author.
  • C. Wrong. Adobe's pattern for publish is a separate location, `/etc/map.publish`, replicated to publish and set as the Mapping Location of its resource resolver. Publish does not read author's mappings at request time.
  • D. Wrong. Adobe says the `/etc/map.publish` configurations must be replicated and the location configured as the Mapping Location on publish.

Question 3

A lighting retailer authors its Edge Delivery Services site in the Universal Editor, with Adobe Experience Manager as a Cloud Service as the content source. The design team wants a new product spotlight block. A developer proposes a custom Adobe Experience Manager component with its own HTL for the block, so the markup can be tuned on the server. Which approach should the architect recommend?

  • A. Build the block on the generic block resource type, and keep custom components for blocks with no model
  • B. Build the block as a custom component with HTL, so the server renders markup tuned to the design
  • C. Build the block on the `core/franklin/components/block/v1/block` resource type, with no custom component
  • D. Build the block as a custom component and register it in `component-filters.json` so authors can add it

Answer: C. With Adobe Experience Manager as the content source for Edge Delivery Services, a block is data plus a block name. The provided block component renders the markup that publishing and the editor expect, and the look comes from the block's JavaScript and CSS in the code repository. [4]

  • A. Wrong. Adobe requires the `core/franklin/components/block/v1/block` resource type for each block, with or without a model, and says projects must not use custom components.
  • B. Wrong. Adobe says the markup of the provided components is the stable contract between Adobe Experience Manager and the other parts of the system, so projects must not use custom components.
  • C. Right. Adobe says each block must use the `core/franklin/components/block/v1/block` resource type, and that projects must not change the components or use custom components, because their markup is the stable contract between Adobe Experience Manager and the other parts of the system.
  • D. Wrong. A filter limits which children an author can add to a block or section. Adobe still says projects must not use custom components.
